Spring Sports Begin Monday, February 24

Updated on 01/25/2025

For planning purposes, most spring sports will begin Monday, February 24. A detailed tryout schedule can be found here or on the attached flier. Students must register online in order to participate and the signed doctor's page must be dated after May 1, 2024 to participate in fall sports tryouts.  Please register before February 20 so your information can be processed.   Students who do not attend Yorktown should contact Mary Ann Mahan with their student ID number and school of attendance before trying to register online since they will not be in our system until manually entered. Many sports are currently participating in off-season, optional workouts which are most often publicized on Team App.  Students and parents are encouraged to sign up for Team App for all sports they are interested in to find sport-specific information.

Looking Ahead to Fall Sports 2025

Updated on 12/12/2024

For planning purposes, Fall sports will begin as early as July 31 with most beginning on August 4. Late May - Dance Team July 31 - Coed Golf August 4 - Field hockey, volleyball, cheer, women's golf and JV/V football    August 11 - Cross country  August 4 or 11 - Freshmen football this page will be updated in the coming weeks First Week September - Ultimate Frisbee  Late September/early October - Girls Flag Football  Some of these dates are estimates but they will not move any earlier. Please note, playing a high school fall sport requires a commitment to be present for the duration of tryouts and daily practices thereafter. Families are advised that vacations planned after the start of fall sports will not be considered favorably during the tryout process because there is limited practice time to build a team prior to the start of scrimmages and games in mid to late August.

New Athletic Registration Process

Updated on 12/09/2024

Yorktown Student Athletes and Families, Yorktown has transitioned to a new online student athlete registration system for submission of the VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination form and emergency care card.  This process will help us minimize paper collection, streamline data entry, run compliance reports, and will reduce the number of forms that parents must fill out. Each family will create one account to register all their children. Be sure to register your children for all the sports they might be interested in. While registering does not guarantee a spot on the team, this information will help to ensure your student is ready to go on the first day of tryouts.  Students will not be allowed to try out if they are not registered for the specific sports they wish to try out for.  Students may be registered for multiple activities throughout the year and families can sign in as needed to update information. It will be necessary to updat

All Yorktown sports will use Team App as the primary means of communication.  Students and parents interested in any sport should download the Team App for the appropriate sport and sign up for the Pre-Season Training 2020-21 group to receive updated information when available.  Once students make the team and/or the season commences for those teams without tryouts, the coaches will form communication groups for each team level (FR, JV, V) and parent groups. It is recommended a student considering both lacrosse and soccer sign up for both groups at this time so they are aware of the possible off-season opportunities, recognizing the student will only be able to tryout for one team later in the school year.  Being a member of multiple groups in the off-season is allowed. All Yorktown teams are labeled in the Team App as YHS - "Sport Name"

Use of Bag Room - Caution

Updated on 12/09/2024

Last week, we received a report of an item stolen out of the "bag room" where athletes can store their equipment/bags during the day.  While we are very disappointed to hear of these reports, it serves as a reminder to all that the room is left open most of the time to allow access for athletes throughout the day and evening hours.  Due to this universal access, we recommend students not keep items of value which others might want - sunglasses, wallets, electronics, etc - in their bags in the bag room at any time.  Such valuables should be stored in a locked hallway locker if they must be brought to school.
